Minnesota School Nutrition Association Conference Recap

Over 850 school food service professionals attended the Minnesota School Nutrition Association Conference in Duluth last month, where everyone had the opportunity to learn about how to get involved in Farm to School.

Lisa Sawyer and Ashley Bress from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture led a grant writing workshop to walk through the steps needed to apply for an AGRI Farm to School Grant

In addition, Maxine Peterson from the Minnesota Department of Education led a workshop about partnering with Family and Consumer Science (FACS) teachers and students. Many ideas were shared, including working together on school gardens, marketing school meals, learning culinary skills, nutrition analysis of recipes, incorporating more food preparation in school meals, partnering on a Culinary Arts competition and more. 

Finally, 15 more school districts registered for the Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch, which will be held on October 12.
